Review + Swatches: Maybelline Color Elixirs

Long time, no post! I am so sorry about the lack of posts this past month. I have been going through some things in my personal life that have been distracting and have made me feel unmotivated about blogging. However, things are slowly getting better and I am finally here with a review that I am super excited about! I have been trying out these Maybelline Color Elixirs for a few months now and they are such fun new products. I am big fan of so many drugstore lip products and these are quickly rising to the top as some of my absolutely favorites!

Product Rundown

These Maybelline Elixirs claim to combine the pigmentation of a lipstick, the hydration of a lip balm, and the glossy finish of a lip gloss. They come in 20 different shades and run from $6-$8, depending on where you buy them. The cheapest I have found them is at Target!

(from top to bottom: 060 Nude Illusion, 065 Caramel Infused, 045 Amethyst Potion)

My Thoughts

I have quickly become addicted to these products. The pigmentation is better than even I would have expected. They are so super glossy and they make your lips look plump and pouty, which is always a good thing. I also really enjoy the texture of the product. It doesn't feel like a traditional lip gloss consistency. On the lips, it feels more lip balmy in texture. It feels kind of like a cross between a balm and a gloss on the lips. If you have read my blog for a while, you would know about my undying love for the Revlon Lip Butters. Well, these Maybelline Elixirs have risen to that same level love in terms of drugstore lip products. I absolutely love these and I HAVE to pick up some more shades! My favorite shade is the Amethyst Potion. It's the perfect quick bold lip for the winter months. I love the applicator on these as well. It's a tear drop shaped applicator and the tapered end makes it very easy to apply to the corners of the lips. The lasting power of these is similar to a lip butter. It lasts well throughout the day, but will wear off when eating or drinking, which is kind of to be expected. I don't really have any critical thing to say about these lip products other than that I wish we lived in an ideal world where makeup was free so that I could own literally every shade.

I would definitely recommend this product to any and everybody. I hope you found this review helpful. Again, I apologize for the lack of posts but I am now going to be posting regularly once again! Have a fabuloussss day!

Paige

2013 Favorites!

2013 was a great year for me in the fabulous world of makeup. I bought and tried tons of makeup (sorry, bank account) and found some really amazing products that I am now addicted to. All these products made the cut for the best of the best of 2013 and are products that I highly, highly recommend. Hope you enjoy!

Face

People who read my blog consistently are probably sick and tired of seeing this product but of course, it had to make its appearance on this post. I can not do my makeup without this primer. I can't imagine wearing foundation without this underneath it. To me, it makes such a big difference in how smoothly and evenly my foundation applies and also how long it wears. This product is pricey but it goes a long way. I have had this bottle since the beginning of the 2013 and I still have quite a bit to go. Try this primer if you haven't! I promise that you'll love it.

I have mentioned that I have a tad bit of a foundation buying addiction. I am obsessed with trying new foundations and I am so picky when it comes to ones that I like. I try so many foundations because I can never find the one that is absolutely perfect. I have dry skin, for reference, and this Marc Jacobs foundation may finally be the foundation that fits into that "perfect" category. It glides over any dry patches on my face, which I love. The finish is so natural. It blends beautifully into the skin and gives medium coverage, which is generally what I prefer in a foundation. It is buildable coverage, and if you apply a second layer, it will be totally full coverage and flawless! I've also read reviews where people with oily skin also love this foundation. I am in love with this foundation and I will keep repurchasing!

I love the Urban Decay Setting Sprays for setting my foundation without having to use powder all over my face. Since I do have dryer skin and many powders look cakey and noticeable on my face. So I love to set with these sprays to make my foundation last all day long without the use of powder! The one I am currently using is the Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray, but I love all the ones in the line from Urban Decay. I love setting my under eye concealer with the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder. The powder is very finely milled so it makes the under eye look flawless and it diminishes the appearance of fine lines. It also brightens the whole under eye for a very well-rested and awake look.

Cheeks

This has been the one stand-out blush for me this year. I love that it's from the drugstore and it is so high quality. It is the perfect pinky-peach blush that can go with literally ANY makeup look. This definitely has been my most worn blush!

If you've read any of my FOTD posts, then you will know that I love this bronzer. In this last year, I've really been enjoying contouring my face and go a little heavier with the bronzer. I think this is the perfect shade of bronze and it suits me in the summer when I am tanner and also in the winter when I am pale as a ghost. It also lasts forever. I've had this product well over a year now and I use it every time I do my makeup and I've barely made a dent in it.

Eyes

I have used this palette so much this year. I love that this palette has 5 matte shadows and 1 satin highlight. You can create so many looks with this and it's also great to use along side other palettes because every eye look needs good matte shadows to balance shimmery shades. Naked 2 is such an amazing and natural crease color and I use it all the time.

Ever since I got this earlier in the year, I've used it just about every single time I do my makeup. It is the perfect crease shade. It works great as a transition/blending shade for darker eyeshadow looks. It a warm toned light brown and it blends so perfectly. You need this eyeshadow in your life.

Mascara is probably my favorite beauty product of all time. It transforms your entire look and define your eyes in one single step. I love trying new mascaras and I'm pretty picky when it comes to the ones I love and will repurchase. These two mascaras are by far the standout mascaras from this year. The YSL Babydoll is the BEST mascara I have ever tried. It lengthens, volumizes, and separates every lash. It does not clump up at all. The CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume is also very good and the best I've tried thus far at the drugstore. It does build volume but also adds length. I love the two mascaras together as well.

4. Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Liner in "Blackest Black"
I am obsessed with gel liners and definitely prefer them to liquid liner. They are so easy to work with and they create the perfect cat eye. This gel liner by Maybelline is pretty close to perfect. It is super smooth and pigmented. The product does not dry out fast. It is so easy to apply. I think this is as good as any high-end gel liner and I will forever repurchase!

5. Urban Decay Primer Potion
I can't do my eye makeup with out this. It gives a perfect smooth base for the eye shadows I put on top. It allows everything to blend easier and more smoothly. It makes any shadow I put over top apply more vibrant and pigmented. And the best thing it does is help my shadow to not crease all day long. I have dry skin, but for some reason, my eye lids are oily and shadows crease like crazy on me. This helps them to stay crease-free all day! Plus, I've had this tube for well over a year and it is still going strong. You need the tiniest amount and I think it really is worth the money.

Brows

This has been my favorite brow pencil for the majority of the year. I love this for everyday, natural, polished looking brows! I also love the spoolie on the end. It does a great job of blending out the color evenly throughout the brows.

Lips

This is the best lip balm I have ever used. I am prone to very dry lips and this helps them stay smooth, fresh, and plump. It smells just like a field of roses.

I love the entire Revlon Lip Butter line! These are some of my all time favorite lip products. They provide moisture, shine, and great color payoff all-in-one. I have so many colors and I keep on buying them. They are some of the best products at the drugstore in my opinion. The colors above are Sugar Plum (left) and Lollipop (right).

This lipstick has become my all time favorite holy grail lipstick. The color suit my skin tone so well and it looks perfect with any makeup look. The Revolution Lipsticks are super creamy and pigmented. It is my perfect lipstick. I can't say enough good things about it.

These are my favorite formula for lipsticks. They are pricey but they are sooo worth it. This "Nude Beige" shade is the perfect nude pink. All of these lipsticks are extremely pigmented and intensely creamy. They have a little shine to them so a lip gloss over top isn't really needed.

This has definitely been my favorite bold lip color of the year. I'm typically more of a neutral lipstick girl but I have been venturing more into the bolder color and this one is my absolute favorite. It's a deep berry shade that look gorgeous in the fall. If you want to see this color in action, you can read my Fall-Inspired FOTD by clicking here
